Privacy Policy

Madina Islamic Center ("Madina", "we", "us") is a nonprofit masjid in Springfield, Virginia. This policy explains what information we collect through madinamasjid.org, our forms, donations, emails and text messages, and how we use and protect it.
Information we collect
- Contact details you give us: your name, email address, phone number and message when you sign up for updates, contact us, request the hall or volunteer.
- School registration: parent and child details needed to enroll students, including any health, allergy or doctor information you choose to share so teachers can keep your child safe.
- Donations and payments: your name, email, amount, fund and frequency. Card and bank details are entered on Stripe's secure checkout page and are never sent to or stored on our website.
- Forms you start but do not finish: if you type your email or phone number into one of our sign-up, donation or registration forms, we may save it before you press the button, so we can send you one reminder by email. We never text you unless you check the text-message box.
- Text message consent: when you check the box to receive texts, we record your phone number and the date and time you agreed.
- How you use the site: pages visited, the link or ad that brought you here, and basic device information, collected with cookies and similar tools.
How we use it
- To process donations, send tax receipts and let you manage monthly giving.
- To enroll students and contact parents about classes, closures and their child.
- To answer your questions and requests.
- To send the emails and texts you signed up for: prayer and Jummah reminders, events, classes, closures, Eid announcements and occasional fundraising appeals.
- To understand which pages and announcements are useful, and to improve the site.
- To keep the site secure and prevent spam and fraud.
Text messages (SMS)
We send text messages only to people who opted in, for example by checking the text-message box on one of our forms. Message frequency varies, up to 6 messages a month. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop receiving texts at any time, or HELP for help. You may also contact us at (703) 451-4612 or masjid.madina1@gmail.com.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging opt-in data and consent are never shared with or sold to any third party. The information sharing described below excludes text messaging opt-in data and consent.
How we share information
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the masjid's website and communications, and only for that purpose:
- Stripe, to process donations and payments;
- our email and text message delivery providers (such as Amazon Web Services and Twilio), to deliver messages you asked for;
- our website hosting and security providers (such as Cloudflare), to run and protect the site;
- analytics and advertising tools (such as Google and Meta), which may receive information about site visits through cookies to measure and improve our outreach.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of our community.
Cookies
We use cookies and your browser's local storage to keep forms working, remember how you found us, remember whether you have already seen our welcome introduction or joined, and measure site use. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work, though some features may not remember you.
Children
Information about children is provided by their parents or guardians when registering for classes. Health details are stored encrypted and are visible only to school staff who need them. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security and retention
We use encrypted connections, restricted staff access and encrypted storage for sensitive details. We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes above, for tax and accounting records, or as required by law.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from emails with the link at the bottom of any email.
- Stop texts by replying STOP.
- Ask us to see, correct or delete your information by emailing masjid.madina1@gmail.com.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new effective date. Please also see our Terms.
